The long wait is finally over for matriculants, as the 2024 matric results will be released this week.
The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) will start issuing firm offers to thousands of hopefuls who have applied to study at the university.
Last year the university received over 290 600 individual applications for approximately 8 600 first-year places available in 2025. Numerous provisional offers were issued last year to some of the applicants, said Normah Zondo, executive director of corporate relations at UKZN.
“These will be confirmed in the form of firm offers, which will be issued in batches immediately after the public release of the 2024 official National Senior Certificate (NSC) matric results, provided the conditions of the provisional offers are met,” said Ms Zondo.
“The most popular courses applied for are Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Nursing, and Bachelor of Social Science.”
In keeping with previous years, the university is offering all registration processes strictly online. Ms Zondo said the university management will not issue any invitation to or invite prospective applicants to visit any of the campuses to apply or submit an application, to undertake a change of mind, to register, or to get a response to a query.
She added that all registration processes, including the so-called “change of mind” process, are only available online and are to be done off-campus.
“All first-entry undergraduates who accept an offer will be provided with data and all relevant information to assist them in registering from their remote locations. Data will also be allocated to returning students who were registered for the 2024 academic year and do not have a Degree Complete (DC) status,” said Ms Zondo.
“No on-campus and in-person service will be offered. No unregistered person will be allowed onto campuses. The university will not be accepting any ‘walk-ins’.”
The university wishes to caution prospective students not to fall for scams, including those promising placements at UKZN, in exchange for a fee.
Ms Zondo said places at UKZN are not for sale. She urged the public to avoid falling victim to these scams and to report any incidents to the South African police Service (SAPS). She added that the university will take legal action against anyone misusing its name, logo, or symbols to defraud prospective students
She urged members of the public to be circumspect of any messages purporting to be from UKZN. Prospective students and members of the public in general are encouraged to rely on information published on the official UKZN website (www.ukzn.ac.za) and their official social media platforms.
The university encourages all stakeholders to report any fraudulent or unethical activities to the UKZN Tip-Offs Anonymous service. Operated independently by Deloitte and offered free of charge, this service guarantees complete confidentiality, said Ms Zondo.
Reports can be made anonymously at any time, through the following official channels: toll-free number (0800 203 285), via email at ukzn@tip-offs.com or through the website https://www.tip-offs.com
