Three foreign nationals were arrested yesterday after they were found in possession of a large quantity of copper cables valued at approximately R450 000.
Members of the SAPS Ethekwini Economic Infrastructure Task Team were patrolling the area when they noticed a white bakkie with the suspects reversing towards the rear of a house.
Upon investigation, they discovered copper cables under tarpaulins in the vehicle and more cables lying near the house.
The suspects, aged between 32 and 46, were unable to provide a valid explanation for possessing the cables.
The three men have been charged with tampering with essential infrastructure, possession of suspected stolen property, and receiving stolen property.
Ethekwini District Commissioner, Major General Makhosazana Victoria Kheswa, said they were committed to arresting such offenders.
“The Ethekwini Economic Infrastructure Task Team is committed to arresting such offenders and ensuring they face prosecution. The possession, purchasing, and selling of stolen property, especially when it affects our infrastructure and economy, is a serious offence,” said Major General Kheswa.
