The Green Buddies Environmental Club hosted its highly anticipated 4th Annual Water Week Competition and Presentation Ceremony at Hirsch’s Umhlanga on Saturday, August 31.
The event celebrated young pupils’ creativity and commitment to environmental stewardship as they showcased their innovative posters on the theme of water conservation.
The competition featured the top 25 posters selected from entries across various schools, all emphasising the critical importance of water conservation and sustainable practices, said chairman of Green Buddies Environmental Club, Ashlin Ellan.
The atmosphere was filled with excitement and enthusiasm as pupils, parents and teachers gathered to support the young participants.
In first place was Heer Yadhav Ramsamujh (Sunford Primary School), second place was Nicosha Naidoo (Sunford Primary School) and third place was Seiranya Govender (Crawford International La Lucia).
Speaking to DurbanLocal, the winner 11-year-old Grade 5 pupil, Heer, said he was excited and pleased that he was placed first in the competition.
“I am happy because I made my school proud as well. I won a Midea Water Dispenser, a backpack and a wooden construction kit,” said Heer.
“I love nature, especially sea life and I often spend time at the beach with my family. Through this creative awareness I was inspired to point out and draw how important water is, not only for us but for all living organisms.”
Heer thanked his family and teachers for supporting him. He was grateful to Green Buddies and Hirsch’s for the prizes and the the opportunity to participate in the competition.
“We are incredibly proud of the young learners who participated in this competition. Their creativity and understanding of the importance of water conservation are truly inspiring. It’s vital that we continue to educate and empower our youth to take an active role in environmental stewardship. Events like these show that the future of our planet is in good hands,” Mr Ellan said.
“Green Buddies Environmental Club looks forward to continuing its work in promoting environmental education and sustainable practices in the community,” said Mr Ellan.
