The Metro police have received a fleet of high-performance cars and pick-up trucks which they said will assist them in being more efficient in curbing crime and increasing police visibility in the eThekwini Municipality.
The eThekwini Metro police in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) has procured an additional 146 vehicles to be added to their fleet as of last week.
The procurement of new vehicles comes after the city announced plans to roll out the Smart Policing System, which seeks to fast track crime reports.
The eThekwini Metro police spokesperson, Colonel Boysie Zungu, said the fleet includes 50 Volkswagen (VW) Golf GTIs, 29 Ford Rangers, 30 Isuzu bakkies, and 37 VW Polos.
“The Metro police commend the council for approving the procurement and for sharing the Metro police’s vision of ensuring a safe city for residents, businesses and visitors,” said Colonel Zungu.
“Further crime prevention initiatives will be implemented in the coming weeks running up to the holiday season. We will make the announcements to the public in due course. We want the city to be prepared to safely welcome the thousands of holidaymakers during the festive season.”
