eThekwini Municipality is working to ensure inclusiveness in the workplace.
The annual Department of Employment and Labour Report 2023/2024 presented to the Governance and Human Resources Committee last week, revealed that the municipality had made tremendous progress in terms of employing people with disabilities. The report shows that the City currently employs 276 people with disabilities.
The tabling of the report coincides with the country’s commemoration of Disability Rights Awareness Month which promotes inclusivity in the workplace.
Head of the Human Capital Unit, Sihle Mkhize said the report showed the effort the city was putting in to reach its targets.
“We are excited that the municipality is making progress and working hard to achieve the 3% target of employing people with disabilities as per the requirement by the Department of Labour,” he said.
“The primary goal is to promote inclusion and fair employment opportunities for all, including those with disabilities.”
Chairperson of the Governance and Human Resources Committee, Nkosenhle Madlala said the leadership of the municipality was excited with the progress made by the C ity in terms of the employment of people with disabilities.
