A 39-year-old man was arrested during the early hours of Wednesday morning at the Kwadabeka township for possession of explosives, following a joint operation by the Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Special Task Force, Crime Intelligence, and Explosives Unit.
Acting on information that the man was in possession of explosives commonly used in cash-in-transit heists, law enforcement swiftly conducted a raid on his home.
During the search, authorities discovered nine sticks of explosives, four detonators, and 39 live rounds of ammunition.
He was immediately arrested and is set to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
Major General Lesetja Senona, the KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, praised the co-ordinated efforts of the units involved, commending their effective work in ensuring the community’s safety.
