eThekwini is gearing up for the holiday season. As the festive season approaches and to ensure safety and security measures are implemented, eThekwini Municipality invites event organisers, companies, and individuals who want to hold events/activities in the city during the festive season to submit their applications.
They have until Friday November 1, to apply for permission to host events in the city over the festive season. The application process will enable the city to monitor and control the functioning of events taking place and ensure the process is compliant with the city’s event management system. The festive season period will be from December 1, 2024 to January 31, 2025.
Chairperson of the Festive Season Management Committee, Nomusa Ntshangase said they are excited that the city remains a preferred tourist destination. However, she said the safety of residents and visitors remains a priority.
“The municipality wants to ensure that while people enjoy themselves during the festive season, they do so in a safe manner. We welcome events being hosted in the city as they play a crucial role in driving the economy of the city and enhance social cohesion,” Ms Ntshangase said.
Application forms to host events can be obtained from the Events Management Office, The Platform, Lion Match Complex, Entrance No 1, 892 Umgeni Road, Durban, 4001 or email Archel.Somaroo@durban.gov.za or call on 031 311 4720.
Application forms must be returned to the same address.
Ms Ntshangase said the municipality reserves the right to cancel an event should it deem it to be non-compliant. No late submissions will be accepted. Submitting an application does not guarantee that permission to host an event will be granted. The applicant will be notified whether their application has been successful or not.
